Rescue Diver

Pre-requisite: 12 yrs or older ~ compleated medical statement ~ Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver plus a current First Aid certificate such as Emergency First Response. "Minimum - 20 logged dives for certification".

The rescue diver course is intended for divers who want to expand their knowledge and experience beyond a purely recreational level. This certification is also required before one can venture into PADI leadership training (such as Dive Master, Assistant Instructor or Open Water Scuba Instructor), or as partial fulfillment to apply for the highest non-professional level of recreational divers' rating - the Master Scuba Diver. This course is designed to develop the diver's knowledge and skills in performing diver rescues, assisting and managing diving-accident situations, and rendering proper first aid. The minimum duration of the course is 25 hours.

Please note that to apply for rescue diver training, you must provide proof that you have followed a first aid and CPR course within the past 2 years. Alternatively you can follow an Emergency First Reponder course prior to starting the Rescue Diver course.

The practical sessions of the course consist of 10 dive rescue exercises, 4 open water rescue scenarios and the preparation of an emergency assistance plan. These rescue exercises include:

Assistance while swimming
Panicked diver response and underwater problems
In-water artificial respiration
First aid procedures for pressure related accidents
Diving accident scenarios

The academic sessions consist of 5 presentations and video sessions (English version only) and a final exam on dive rescue and diving first aid as well as emergency management and equipment considerations.
